Cardfile v4 error message - out of memory
July 10th, 2009 . by rogerI have a large file, 193MB, about 800 cards, many images, which although a bit slow sometimes, has worked well. I have not accesssed it for a few weeks, and now when I try to open it the progress bar goes about 20% across then I get a message “Out of memory”. If I close this this the bar continues to progress to the end but then just starts again.
If I try import instead of open I get the same message but the import stops.
I have also tried to run it from a stick with the same result
I have Windows XP SP3 with plenty of RAM and virtual memory
Please can you help - this data took a long time to accumulate and I would be devastated to lose it
Thanks
Roger
Roger, I suspect Cardfile is trying to load in your system’s real memory. If you’ve not used it in awhile, you may have updated other programs which are now using more real memory, or you may have more/different programs open at the same time which are using other memory. Also look at your auto started programs (start/programs/startup) and see if new programs may be started that you don’t need to be running…that may save you some memory. The free program ‘winpatrol’ is good for seeing what is being loaded.
If nothing else, you might consider upgrading your system memory…if 193M isn’t loading, then other programs will begin to suffer soon as well.
Hope that helps.
I like the USB drive option I have one loaded with the files I need to keep, and it saved my day when I got a ‘This is not a valid Zip archive’ Error I couldn’t open the bac file either, but I saved the file on the usb drive back to my working folder with “shipper-old” as the title. I hope I can recover the info from my “shipper” file in future.
