Cannot open file the system can not find the specified file Error

September 26th, 2008 . by Barry

I am currently using version 3.2c

I have been using this version for quite some time now on Windows XP Home.

This week I have started receiving errors and am not able to shut AZZ down only through Ctrl-Alt-Del and terminate application.

The error reads “Cannot open file “c:\DOCUME~1\OWNER\LOCAL~1\TEMP\(BUNCH OF 0′S)E211046.~H” the system can not find the file specified

Has my database been corrupted or is something else going on here?

*.~h files are created in Windows temp folder once you start Azz Cardfile, they are part of the process. When program is closed, the *.~h files are deleted automatically.

Possibly some utility on your computer is cleaning the Windows temporary folder too aggressively and too often, which interrupts operation of Azz Cardfile. (It may interrupt operations of other software as well). Cleaning temp folder is ok, but should be done properly, when all other programs but Windows system are closed.

To check, open C:\Documents and Settings\xxx\Local Settings\Temp , (where xxx - user account name). You will see many junk files. Close all programs that may be running, except the file browser which you use for this, and delete all them. Launch AZZ Cardfile. There should appear large file with extension .~h . When you edit, save, update Azz Cardfile documents, this file changes. It should dissappear when you close AZZ. If some program cleans temp folder when AZZ Cardfile is open - the error like you describe should appear. To our knowledge there are some aggressive disk cleaning applications and badly written freeware antiviruses that act this way.

There may be some conflict of different kind of course, but on properly functioning Windows system the error should not occur.

I used AZZ Cardfile for some years but it will not longer open. Is there any way I can recover the data I had in the Cardfile? Thanks!
