More suggestions for version 4.0

December 30th, 2007 . by Rytis Zumbakis

You probably have it in mind but I would prefer it if the filter would match any individual words in the cardname out of all words entered. At the moment it is half way there in that any complete part of the cardname string is found, but if the cardname is “COMP Vista Photo Gallery Color Profile” then “COM Col” should IMHO (though perhaps optionally) pick it up straight away.

Of course I appreciate that Ctrl+F finds things pretty well anyway!

Also, after using it for several months, I believe that version 4 beta is so much better AND already more stable and reliable than version 3 that you should try to launch it as soon as possible. I am using Vista Home Premium with 2GB of RAM.

Wonderful program - greatly appreciated.

Individual words matching will be implemented in future versions (this operation may slow down cards search in very large files, so it will probable come sswitched-off by default).

When searching, I press normally escape after doing a search, so the focus land in the found card.
When I want to search for the next occurence, with f3, only the current card is searched.
Seems, that f3 will repeat the last search, but onley in the current card.

As you have searched with ctrl-alt-f3 [find in card]. Is it possible, to change f3, so that it will repeat the last search method you have done?
When the last search was with ctrl-f, f3 will repeat this.
When it was ctrl-alt-f3, f3 will repeat this.

Will be fixed in the next version

I had one more “bug” to report. I have a 24MB AZZ file, and when that is saving (as in File >> Save), the “progress meter” doesn’t come up, just the
waiting hourglass. This sometimes makes me think that it has locked up, and is not actually saving the file.

Will be fixed in the next version

Using Azz cardfile for a long time now it’s a great program.

In the beta 4 version, it would be great if you can add to the options the default of the export feature, so I can always export the selected card instead of all cards, now I have to go down the menu and select it manually each time.

Will be fixed in the next version

It sounds like version 4.0 is close to being released but one feature I would love to see is an outline feature.

In outline mode you could enter information at a topic level with the ability to promote/demote and move topics around within the card. You could also hide topics below a specific level.

I use Cardfile when I’m brainstorming new ideas/projects and outliners are great for that.

Tom - outline mode is in plans, but not for version 4.0. We want to finally release it bug free and proceed with further development.

    Rytis,
Would be useful to have file sync. I Have same file name in two loctions which have been added to. Need to merge and update added card data from both files by syncing files. Any chance this will be a future function.

    Thanks

Nigel, the import function works as a merge too in v4.

Open one of the files in program, use menu File > Import, select another version of file and OK.

If the imported file contains card carrying same Title, a dialog will display, asking whether to: Keep most recent/Overwrite/Skip/Add as new card, also a checkbox below, that allows to “Do the same to all duplicate cards“.

Most likely you will choose to Keep the most recent, so make sure all your computers have clock set correctly.

    Hello,

I would love to see a way to allow users to ONLY read a cardfile I created. Eliminating them to be able to change any data on the cardfile, but most importantly disable anyone from being able to save the cardfile to a disk and use as there own.

Any future enhancement planned for this?

.azz data files are like any other document-files on the computer. Once loaded into the parent program (AZZ Cardfile in this case), they can be edited and modified.

There is a workaround, but not 100% proof - press the “Lock cards” button and remove that button in Tools | Options | Toolbars. All the .azz files on that computer will become semi-locked, unless the user finds a way to re-activate the “Lock” button and de-press it.

Other than this, it is virtually impossible to disallow people to replicate and reuse whatever they already see on their monitor screen, by technical means, sorry.

This should be done by legal means instead.

E.g. you can’t use AZZ Cardfile software trial version forever without buying the License ;)
