AZZ Cardfile 4.0 beta - Bug report from TexasT

November 23rd, 2007 . by Rytis Zumbakis

BUG? List pane: copy-paste

I tried to copy-paste an edit onto a list title by copying using Ctrl+C and pasting with Ctrl+V. Pasting with the shortcut didn’t work. I had to use the right-click context menu to paste.

It works as expected when using Rename card and its pop-up window.

When using it on the list itself, by selecting the title and then letting it change so you can edit it right there on the list, that’s when it requires the context menu. Attempting to paste with Ctrl+V will paste it on the card itself instead of on the list.

Can’t reproduce, possibly already fixed.

BUG? Options: Open & Save

Tab: Open & Save

Location of backup copies

Tried to set a subfolder for backups:

My Documents\My azzCardfile Files\BAKs

and then

C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\My Documents\My azzCardfile Files\BAKs

I browsed to it (I had already created it), both from the “My Documents” folder and using the full path, but it wouldn’t accept it: the line remained blank.

Then I tried setting this folder:

My Documents\My azzCardfile BAKs

and then

C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\My Documents\My azzCardfile BAKs

and that didn’t work either. The field for the backups path remained blank, with the cursor sitting there and blinking, but it changed the default location for all files - not good.

Fixed.

A strange thing happened when I re-started AZZ Cardfile. I had not set it to open the last file used as default, so the empty screen was not the surprise.

However, clicking on the Open file icon showed that first backup folder I had tried to set:

My Documents\My azzCardfile Files\BAKs

What’s going on? When azzCardfile tried to change the default folder to the path shown above, I had clicked on Cancel, and the field for the default location of Cardfiles showed (and still shows) the default folder My azzCardfile Files. So that’s the one I should have seen when I went to open sample.azz.

Fixed.

BUG? Options: View > Card

Options > View > Card

Can’t change the Font and Color; buttons don’t work.

Can’t unselect “Show Grop Header” [Grop = Group]

Fixed.

BUG? Word wrap

I noticed that a closing parenthesis will wrap to the next line on the card by itself, instead of staying with the word preceding it. I assume the same thing will happen with an opening parenthesis and the word that follows it. Both of them need to wrap as one unit.

Example:

(open

instead of

(
open

and

close)

instead of

close
)

Valid in some cases, sometimes not. It is difficult to manipulate the bahavior of rich text viewer WordWrap. Open.

.ini file

Where’s the .ini file located? I couldn’t find it.

According to Vista standards:

C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Application Data\azzCardfile

“Program Files” folder can’t be modified after installation, “Documents” is too unsafe.

AZZ’s new look

I love the clean new look! Very nice!

The tabs for groups are a nice addition, too. That will really help with long lists of topics.

The ruler is nice. Will we get to choose the measurement units?

Already done in Options.

Love the Header choices!

Ooooh, it can show non-printing characters! Awesome!

And a toggle switch on the toolbar, too. Alright! ;-)

Export

When exporting, the default folder shown to save the file is “My Documents”, instead of the default folder for AZZ files (My Documents\My azzCardfile Files), which is what I expected to see. This is not a problem, but it might be a good idea to mention this behavior in the final Help file.

Usually, export dir is saved between sessions. Good notice though.

Options: Apply button

It would be a nice touch if the Apply button was dimmed until a change was made, then it became “active” until it was pressed to apply the change, at which point it would dim again. Not critical, just a nice cosmetic change.

Too difficult to implement, Apply button has been removed – lots of headache for little benefit.

Options: group header

It’s nice that the Group Header includes the Group Description, but it would be nicer if there was some kind of separator between the two.

done

Although in a way I like that I can add it if I want it there, or just leave it alone.

Not yet, carried over for future versions.

Options: window close

When closing the Options window, it sends me back to the first card on the list instead of the card I was viewing when I opened Options, which is the behavior I expected.

On the list, bookmarks to be used.

Dear Antanas:

Yesterday I found the page for Beta 4, downloaded it, and I’ve been
playing with it for a few hours. Very nice! You really have a winner
here! ;-)

So far, it’s been stable. However, I did find what might be some bugs.
I’m enclosing an .rtf export of my “Beta4″ group cards so you can take
a look. The possible bugs are followed by some cards with a few
comments and observations. I hope all of this info will be of help to
you.

Is there a page somewhere on your site where one can see a list of
reported bugs and their status? Or a beta-tester forum?

Thanks!

System Info:
Windows XP Professional, version 2002, SP-2
Pentium D CPU 2.80Ghz
0.99 GB of RAM
Hard drive: 232 GB, 123 GB free space

V4 beta is nice. A request: please make it possible to choose the location of the cardfiles, instead of forcing them to be in a certain place.

Also, documentation of the cardfile format, which appears not to be XML, would be helpful.

    cheers,
    Glen.

Glen - it is possible to choose the location on your computer, where to save the file.

Format is zipped XML, just un-zip it. The program can even read any XML files, and export .azz files to XML through File | Export.
