    1. The option to set menu Edit\Paste Special default to Unformatted Text
    2. Ability to sort the card list based on Card last modified date.
    3. Spell checking by integration with the WordWeb program (http://wordweb.info/free/) as done by QJot by xtort.net ©.

I use AZZ Cardfile daily at work to log my work projects. I set the log card format and when cutting and pasting always have to use the menu Past Special so the cards format doesn’t change. It would be great to just use keys Ctrl-V to past unformatted text.

    Thanks, Steve
    User since 2002

Found Azz Cardfile version 4.0 Beta announcement after my post. Suggestion 2 is already in version 4

  3. comment number 3 by: Rytis Zumbakis

    Thanks Steve,

good suggestions, although unlikely to be implemented in version 4.0 final. We will consider them for next version, thanks.

just like a scale in a card, a scale covering the card list, the card and task panel (ver 4) can be created to set the widths of respective columns

When exporting filtered cards, I get only the text. Would be nice, if also images were exported.

  6. comment number 6 by: Rytis Zumbakis

    Jouni,

from the very beginning, this feature is called “Export to text file” :)

Can you provide an example when it useful to include images when exporting to CSV.

  7. comment number 7 by: chris

Was wondering if there are any plans to add a security feature for individual cards. I don’t want all the information available to the rest of the people in my house.

  8. comment number 8 by: andriuz

    what about portable apps version?

  9. comment number 9 by: Rytis Zumbakis

Chris - you are the first to ask for such a feature. Unlikely that we will implement this, sorry. You can easily keep sensitive cards in another .azz file, and password-protect it. Thanks for suggestion anyway, keep them coming. Rytis

  10. comment number 10 by: Rytis Zumbakis

    andriuz- not in foreseeable future.

    There is a workaround though:

    1. Export all or selected (holding Ctrl) cards from AZZ data file to text file - use menu File -> Export -> Text file.

    2. Copy that plain text file to any mobile device into memo/notes/etc.. area.

There will not be AzzCardfile’s functionality, but at least you could read the data.

wanted: a way to create templates for cards. this would make them less free-form (only if used), but would make it easy to organize certain types of data. an example template might be:

    name:
    phone number:
    birthday:

of course it would be possible to just type the fields on every card, but having templates would make it faster and less error-prone.
    Glen.

  12. comment number 12 by: Rytis Zumbakis

Glen Worstell - thanks for good question, this feature has been shamefuly omitted in Help, so I thought wortwile to write a post, look here: http://www.azzcardfile.com/blog/23/creating-template-cards-in-azz-cardfile/

  13. comment number 13 by: Steve Levinson

Hi- this blog is very helpful. Nice to see some of the progress on prior suggestions.
Wanted Old: Ver 3 had a simple “copy card” feature that was extremely useful when creating similiar cards. Would be great to have again in Ver 4

Wanted New: Is it possible to have some Formating of the individual List Entry’s? Even Just the option of Bold Face would be very good feature. Color changes would be fantastic…
The beauty of AZZ -as opposed to standard data bases_ is its VISIBILITY. The Ver 4 Tab function of the List may be useful to some people but for me simple formatting of the List entries would be MUCH better as everything would remain visible but be easier to sub categorize.
Thanks for great job so far! Been totally dependant on Cardfile for years.

is it possible somehow to use this system online to keep recipes organized. while I used it all the time at home, if I am at work and want to check ingredients before shopping, or at a friends house, and want to make something, I can’t access my computer. someone suggested a opening a yahoo group, keep it private, and keep recipes there, which in theory would work, but there is no way to organize them. any ideas? thanks

  15. comment number 15 by: Rytis Zumbakis

    Steve - thanks.

Nedra - there is no “One button push” integration, but you can simply download and install the software to any computer. The program is fully functional even without registration. As for data files (.azz), you can move them by removable disc like any other files, or store online using any file storage service (which are plenty and free nowadays).

    Bugs in beeta 4?
    1) Sometimes groups I’ve created disappear - they are not there next time I run the program. The cards are still there (in group “all”).
    2) Copying a card by right clicking on the card does not seem to work.

    Glen.

  17. comment number 17 by: Rytis Zumbakis

    Glenn, thanks

    1) this is a bug - group tabs go out of visible area. Will try to make group tabs display differently, so that all are visible, no matter how many.

    2) Hmmm should work, unless no card is selected?

  18. comment number 18 by: Chester Kemp

Version 4 should support ALL v3.3 functionality. It does not do so.

    Beta-2
I have had experimented with version 4 beta-2. I note that this is nearing completion which makes my comments more crucial. My current text is in blue and the original comments are in black (hopefully your mail reader interprets it this manner - if not, please let me know and I will re-present my comments)

    My approach was:
Going through my previous comments on beta-1 and comparing them to the new version.
Being able to relinquish v3 and move to version 4.

    :File links do not action
1 In your sample file under AZZCardfile Text you give examples of external links.- the last two lines do NOT work - I also tried to type them in again, but they still failed to work. (This facility is vital to one of my azzcardfiles which consist of a (massive) list of electronic books with “file:” links.)

    FAIL
1 Your example does NOT function.

2 The data conversion program from v3 to v4 does not recognise the (previously) v3 file links as being hyperlinks.

3 The links on a cardfile (which almost wholly consists of links to electronic books) do not get recognised and highlighted as hypertext links. In v3 the text link would have been written as file:c:netlog.txt but now requires it to be file:/c:\netlog.txt). When edited to add the // it does not recognise them as hyperlinks.

4 - when typed in in the “correct” format they highlight but fail to work

    :Dial and :Card links
2 They also do not work - although they are stated as being implemented within the sample file..

OK - The dial link works OK

FAIL - the card links do not

The recognition of links are flaky. The recognition of a hyperlink do not appear to work - even when editing the existing example.

    Ctrl-Click on Links
3 I welcome the use of the Control key with the mouse button for html links - very sensible. Alternatively what about double clicking instead? That would have an advantage of being widely used in Windows.

QUERY - my query standards as to whether you could use the universally accepted double-click instead of Ctrl-click.
Note - If I have a dial link it requires two hands to ctrl-click - the probably need a third hand to hold the phone handset.

    Groups 1
4 Your concept of grouping is unexpected (for me):
    a. I would identify them as sophisticated filter-templates.
b You cannot get more than about 15(?) visible.
c They are not in any ordered sequence.

    Still horrible

    Groups 2
5 Reading sidewards in the vertical grouping column is uncomfortable and unclear.

    Still horrible

    Groups 3
6 I experimented with adding groups and also including one very long group name - it occupied the full column. It was not obvious how to get to “All” or other groups. A solution would be to limit group names to say 15 characters.

Improvement - there is a limit on the length

    Groups - Alternative Concept
7 I had hoped to see a group within the main list - and then getting a hierarchical structure (in the manner of seeing a directory path and sub-path within Explorer).

    Example
    AZZ Cardfile
    Beta Testing
    Bug fixes
    Compliments
    History
    Ideas

Our views differ on this don’t they?? I find your concept only interesting as a means to get complex filtering - but do not offer a viable hierarchical grouping at all. For me :-) they are clumsy to use - sorry!

    Enhanced Search
8 I cannot get this to work - but I do not know if I am doing it wrongly. Could you provide an example which works on the sample file??

I reiterate - Could you provide an example which works on the sample file??

Sorry I hope I don’t offend with my comments - but version 3.3 is superior at present particularly as version 4 does not support one of my oft-used application files.

Again - apologies for possible offense - but at present some of the necessary functionality of v3.3 has been lost and I actually use those features, consequently I would be unable to use v4 despite the pretty bells and whistles that you have added. (This also affects some of my friends who use azz cardfile by my advice).

I would welcome seeing and evaluating the next beta, but for my current applications, this beta version is too short of usability.

Thanks for the opportunity - hopefully there may yet be another which takes on all of the facilities of v3.3

I have been moving cards from AZZ to Palm w/ListPro. It is a lot of trouble. Something for it or Pocket PC would be nice. I carry a lot of data in my pocket.

  20. comment number 20 by: AZZ

Unfortunately, program only works on Windows PC.

    Workaround:

  21. comment number 21 by: Terri

I use AZZ daily, for everything, however I really wish it had a spell checker!

  22. comment number 22 by: Rytis Zumbakis

Thanks Terri, we are considering adding this, every suggestion is most welcome.

  23. comment number 23 by: D Calabrese

Comment 20. I do use the work around sirt if, U exoirt eacg card abd paste it into Listpro “notes” or a text field. Am able to carry my notes with me everywhere.

  24. comment number 24 by: andres

My suggestion is that AZZ is a very good program and that you should think about developing AZZ card file for Mac. Many AZZ users would appreciate this.
    Sincerely,

    Andres

  25. comment number 25 by: Rytis Zumbakis

Andres, thanks for compliment. Regarding Mac version, I am afraid it is very unlikely for time being, we struggle to even release next Windows version due to various obstacles.

  26. comment number 26 by: Sanjay Mathur

On the left top Title Bar, just below the Title of the card a sub-bar can be inserted, showing the file location

  27. comment number 27 by: Sanjay Mathur

I operate 8 to 10 AZZ files at a time, hopping from one file to another throughout a work session. Can AZZ work environment remember the files I use and open them as soon as AZZ starts?

  28. comment number 28 by: Sanjay Mathur

Multi language capability would be appreciated - including Asian languages - Hindi-Arabic-Urdu etc.

  29. comment number 29 by: Jerry Love

Similar to comment number 7, I also want to use more than one file at the same time. The tabs are nice for organizing cards, but another big help would be to have tabs at the bottom for open files. As it is, only one file can be open at once. One must be saved before opening another. Can’t several files remain in memory for quick transition? This is done in the old Sidekick program.

  30. comment number 30 by: Jerry Love

Another improvement: Make links to specific cards or to filters. I use a macro program to make HoldRightMouseButton copy the word under the cursor, and insert it in the filter. This could be incorporated as a feature so as not to need a macro. Also, a link could switch to a different cardfile, especially if more than one is retained in memory.

  31. comment number 31 by: Jerry Love

Speaking of macros, I found this macro I made only works in version 3. It doesn’t work right in version 4. The clipboard copy command works from the keyboard, but not from the macro. It works fine in version 3. I have to continue with the old version because of this limitation. However, with the link I suggested, I wouldn’t need the macro.

  32. comment number 32 by: Jerry Love

I want to add my agreement with comment #18, about using double-click instead of ctrl-click for links.

  33. comment number 33 by: Rytis Zumbakis

Jerry, you actually can have several instances of the program open at the same time.

Linking to card syntax (only version 4): card:Card Title, where “Card Title” is a title of card you are linking to.

  34. comment number 34 by: Ray Crawford

Have a lot of Adobe PDF files which need to be sorted in a way that I can accesss them easily, I thought your program would be suitable for this, could it become an option in future versions.

  35. comment number 35 by: Sanjay Mathur

Hi. Once again - Best Wishes to you.

As you are aware I am using AZZ cardfile to track the Indian Economy. This entails creating AZZ cardfiles for each of the aspects of the economy I am tracking.

Sometimes, for a new aspect, I have to copy-paste cards from several other AZZ cardfiles into the new AZZ cardfile. This requires that on each of the cards so pasted, the source file name is mentioned in the card title. This is cumbersome excercise as it requires manual editing several hundred cards.

Can there be an option to “catch” the source file name while copy-pasting for all cards at one go?

    Thanks

  36. comment number 36 by: Allan Beattie

I switched from PC to Mac last year, and I can honestly say that AZZ Cardfile is the only thing that I seriously miss. It’s a truly excellent program.

I’ve seen your comment that a Mac version is not likely to appear soon. All I can say is: I hope you change your mind!

  37. comment number 37 by: Jerry Love

Referring to post 14 and your answer. Yes, it is possible to carry the data files to another computer, but I find that is not a convenient solution. I wish for AZZ online, so any changes are made at the server, accessible from any computer. I make changes on one computer and then have to copy files to my other computers.

  38. comment number 38 by: jan

Possibility to change type-size in the field where search-words are typed (top left) would be MOST welcome. I use (licensed) this excellent program in a reception where I often need to type some search term very fast. Larger types/Larger field would make life much easier..:-)

  39. comment number 39 by: Chester Kemp

Yes - this is found under Options in the Tools pull-down menu. Click on the View tab, and then select Filter. This enables you to select the font which also controls the type size and colour etc.

  40. comment number 40 by: jan

Thanks Chester. I didnt describe the “wish” correct. I use this type-size setting but what would really make a difference, would be if the field itself could be enlarged.
Asn it is now, the type-size can grow far beyond the borders of the box..:-)

  41. comment number 41 by: Jen

I would like to agree w/ other posters that it would be incredibly awesome if you could make a Mac OS X version that could use the Win .azz files simultaneously. Currently my desktop is XP & I’ve just downloaded AZZ & converted my trusty old Win 3.1 Cardfile. I am tending more often though to use my MacBook Pro while I’m elsewhere in the house & it would be very useful to be able to use AZZ on the Mac. I do run Crossover & I think I will successfully be able to run AZZ Win on the Mac that way, but I’d prefer a Mac platform built software.

  42. comment number 42 by: Allan Beattie

    Mac version… Mac version… Mac version…

    I keep dreaming.

  43. comment number 43 by: JJO

BUG: When using the advanced search, searching uses the default “baltic” encoding. This leaves the search useless in ex. my language Danish.

IMPROVEMENT: Make the default encoding western or easier customizing.
IMPROVEMENT: Make possible to change the size of the top left type-in list-search field. The font can change but the field doesnt.

IMPROVEMENT: Make it possible to optionally show images in the bodyfield using link to the image (like Excell can do it)instead of encoding the image into the card-file

    .

  44. comment number 44 by: Steve Bruce

In Windows 7 there are many International System Fonts. These are Hidden by default - a new feaute in Win7. Applications need to be updated to hide Windows 7 Hidden fonts. AZZ show 33 Hidden international fonts in the font drop-down.

    Thanks
