Windows 7 - AZZ loses cards
September 17th, 2011 . by nscaveI am a long time user of AZZ cardfile having used it with Windows XP and Windows Vista on both a desktop and laptop computer. In fact I received my licence after writing a review on our website.
Since upgrading to Windows 7, I have found AZZ cardfile 4.0.00c will sometimes lose cards. It seems AZZ will work fine for days at a time, then sometime later you think everything is loaded normal, but find many of the cards have disappeared.
This has happened on both of the above indicated computers since Windows 7 was installed.
I was able to go to the backup file initially and recover all missing cards. Now I find the most recent cards are not in the latest backup anymore. However when the program appears to be functioning normally for those days at a time, all cards are always there. This includes when the computer is powered down and rebooted many times through normal use.
I mention this wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem, and perhaps have a solution. AZZ had become a serious reliable and valuable program to me while using XP and Vista. However due to the missing card problem after upgrading to 7, it has become practically unusable having lost a considerable amount of contact data.
Thanks.

I may have found the solution to my own problem. During my upgrade process from Vista to Windows 7 I had made a folder named AZZ Lic. I put a copy of my AZZ licence code there, plus a manual backup of the AZZ data file.
I did this prior to the upgrade process so that I would have an additional copy of these items in case things went wrong. (I would be selecting individual document files for backup to an external drive.)
Doing some further research after writing the above post, I rechecked the options and found AZZ was set to save the data file to C:\Users\George\Documents\azzCardfile Files which was always the default.
The azzCardfile Files folder did not exist. It may have disappeared somehow during the upgrade Windows process, I am not sure. I found my cards saved under the previously mentioned AZZ Lic folder.
I did not lose any cards, they were all there.
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\azzCardfile is a folder where the AZZ settings.ini file is located. Somehow an older version of my .azz data file ended up in this folder. Each time I started AZZ it was loading that file from here, thus leading me to believe I was missing cards.
Solution: I remade a folder called azzCardfile Files under Documents, transfered my good data file to there, and directed the AZZ program to reload from there. I also made sure it was saving to that folder also.
So far after several days of use, all seems to be back to normal. AZZ Cardfile works so well and fast I wasn’t noticing the file was being loaded from the wrong folder, even though it was saving everything in another different folder.
Even thought this sounds somewhat confusing I wanted to add it to my post as I depend greatly on AZZ Cardfile for a lot of notes & references for my web site. I can only assume the folder mixup came about during the upgrade to 7.
